    Description

On offer is an unusual Series C1 autopilot gyroscope that was mated to the famous, innovative Norden bombsights used on B-17s, B-24s, and B-29s during WW2. Manufactured by Honeywell in Minneapolis, it appears that this was a demonstrator or display model; it has no stenciled markings anywhere on the case, and comes only with a thick, period plastic cover instead of the metal case you'd find if it were installed in a bomb bay. You can't see much of the inner workings of a flight-used gyroscope when the metal cover is in place, so in many respects this is a more interesting example than you often find.
There are some small losses to the plastic cover, depicted in this listing's photographs. All rings of the gyroscope rotate freely, but the pin at the end of the first inner ring has popped free from its slot (if you removed the plastic cover you should be able to push that pin back in place). Wiring and soldering appears intact. This item weighs approximately 17 pounds, and will ship free to the lower 48; no international shipping. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
