Some corrosion on the canteen, which is why these were only made for a single year

About this item
These are like the canteen equivelant of the war production silver dimes. To save better metals for the war effort, these were made with garbage steel and coated with porcelain to keep them from corroding.
This didn't work out as well as they'd hoped, so they quickly went back to making them out of quality materials to begin with.
From what I've found, the majority of these went to the US Navy, and Marine Corps...after the Army allegedly rejected them.
