1944/#33844
This trenching pick-axe is a breakdown piece that can be attached to a soldier's field gear. The item we are listing here is clearly marked on the canvas holder: "W.L. Dumas Mfg. Co 1944", and has a label attached that reads "33844."  This is not an original WW1 item.  We believe it is an item that was created for WW2 use, modeled on the WW1 item, and sold as surplus after WW2. It has never been used.
This is a good tool to have; it breaks down it can can be easily packed and carried.  There is light rust on the base of the head that can be removed with steel wool and worked over with light oil on the place where the rust used to be.
For scale: the wooden handle measures 17 inches in length.
The pick head is about 14 inches long.  Weight is 2#  5 oz prior to packing.
