Cornelius Air Compressor 32-A-228 w Mod. 31 Pressure Tank-Gun Charger Air Supply

ca 1940’s / 1950’s Cornelius Military Aircraft, Three-Stage Air Compressor, Model 32-A-228 with Model 31 Pressure Tank.
This small air compressor was used to supply compressed air on board military aircraft for combat, flight applications.
I am unfamiliar with this type of machine. However, references on the internet allude to its being used as a gun charger air supply as one of its applications.
The compressor measures approx 9x9x5.5. The tank measures approx 2.5 OD x 12.5 long.
The cradle in which it sits does not appear to be original, to wit, integral to the overall ass’y. This inference is due to the attachment screws and tapped holes on compressor appearing to be made to fit this cradle, appearing somewhat makeshift (albeit possibly from a previous form of it being integral -it does fit the radius nicely).
Others that I have seen have a propeller/fan blade attached to drive shaft which seems like a logical power supply on an aircraft. This compressor’s drive shaft has been fitted with a small belt pulley.
The drive shaft rotates freely by hand with concomitant compression to cylinders.
