    Description

For sale is a vintage brown leather bomber jacket with fleece collar and patches. This is likely a 1960s jacket done as a remembrance piece to the pilot's time in service. This is a rare Navy/Coast Guard cross-over collectible. It is also rare becuase
the VPB-6 only existed from October 1, 1943- July 10, 1945 when it was
    transferred
back to the command of the Coast Guard and subsequently disestablished in 1946.
    The left breast patch reads
    D.ALTHEIMER ARM1C, VPB-6, AS ARGENTIA NFLD.
During WWII the Coast Guard's operation was transferred to the Navy. This is from the Argentina base in Newfoundland, noted for Arctic patrols and ice rescue. Donald W. Altheimer received a few honors, as can be seen in the links below.
One patch features Mighty Mouse and the other is a cat with a skull.
The leather zipper flap is punched USN.
Jacket has no size markings. Though not depicted in the main photos, both pocket buttons are present and secure. Leather is still pliable but would benefit from proper conditioning. Piece has light overall wear. Lining is brown nylon and in good shape. The waistband and cuffs have small holes throughout, this could be left as-is or could likely be replaced. Patches are cracking. There is one interior pocket.
