1841 handbill (10”x15”) for an auction of wood (6000 larch and Scotch poles, also fir tops) at the Kirkby-super-Bane plantation (England). Sent through the mail with a “Penny Red” postage stamp from Boston October 5, 1841, received at Grantham October 6. Docket: “Kirkby Wood Sale / Hand-Bill for Auction on 1st Oct. 1841.” Kirkby is in Lincolnshire, the Fortescue Arms Inn still exists in Tattershall (good reviews on its food).
